The World Bank’s Board of Directors approved today an $11.3 million grant from the International Development Association (IDA) for Guyana to increase access to safe water among the poor.

The name “Guyana” conjures images of the legendary “El Dorado”. The word itself means “land of many waters” and the modern state of Guyana takes its name from this ancient Amerindian expression.
