Bio
Winston Jarrett was born in 1944 in Lime Tree Gardens in the parish of Saint Ann, Jamaica. He moved to Trenchtown where he met Alton Ellis who recruited him and Eggar Gordon (Baby Gee) and formed Alton & The Flames. The Flames did a number of early classics like ‘Cry Tough,’ ‘Dance Crasher,’ ‘The Preacher’, and ‘I Have Got A Date.’

The Flames were recording for Duke Reid, but were lured away by Sir Coxsone. Alton moved to England in 1969 and Winston reformed the group as The Righteous Flames. In addition to 17 albums and dozens of solo and compilation recordings, Winston backed up Ken Boothe, Marcia Griffiths and Winston Francis. He also worked with Enid Cumberland and Larry Marshall. Winston recorded over a hundred titles during the early seventies for Joe Gibbs and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry among others. Winston Live On ‘Zion’ and other Perry productions, he is joined by Danny Clarke, and the Meditations.

Winston also produced a string of fine releases on his own Attra, Human Rights and Humble labels. In The late 70’s he cut fine albums for Brent Clarke (‘Kingston Rock’), Roy Cousins (‘Wise Man’), and two co-productions with Tony Shabazz (‘Man Of The Ghetto’ and ‘Ranking Ghetto Style’). Studio One released Crucial Times as part of it’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. Produced by Coxone Dodd, this album shows once again why this man from Trenchtown is still a reggae legend.

Featured on this compilation is a virtual whose who in the lineage of Reggae. From engineers King Tubby, Coxsonne Dodd, and Jim Fox to musicians Jackie Mittoo, Roots Radics, and The Wailers. This essential compilation boasts five previously unreleased tracks as well as nine first time releases on compact disc.

Greetings, I’m working on a Wiki article for Winston and he gave me apporval to use some of the article you have written in the original bio created.

However, due to Wiki’s regluation software I’m getting a copyright issue because some of the info is the same. Take note the birth year listed is incorrect. He was born in 1940.

Could you please consider giving copyright freedom for the information from your article as we build the wiki page for him. It has been a challenge for Winston to be on the computer and keeping track of these things.

PLEASE send a message back as soon as you can. Winston is seeking a clarification and assertion of all the media and information generated on the web about him.

He would like to release some new music this year and have a better developed presence on the web.

Hello,
I am a French photographer and journalist living in Paris (France).
I had the chance to meet Winston Jarrett in the last February 10th 2010 in a flight American Airlines between Miami and Kingston Jamaica.
During the flight we had a very long and interesting conversation about him and his music.
We decided to meet in Kingston during my fifteen days in Jamaica to make an interview and take some photos in order to publish an article about Winston history and performance in music.
Winston gave me a phone number in USA where to get in touch with him quickly to organize the meeting. Problem is the connexion from Jamaica to the states could never been done correctly since it was permanently not working well.
I am trying now from France to get in touch with him without a better success. Maybe one of the number in the phone address is wrong….
If anybody could help me to contact as soon as possible Winston, in order to finalize the article I would like to write about him, please contact me in my email address mrichez@aol.com
