GEORGETOWN, AP · An annual grant of U.S. wheat that this South American nation has received for decades will be sent this year to sub-Saharan Africa, where the need is greater, a spokesman for the American Embassy said Saturday.
Guyana is one of a number of countries that will not receive its wheat shipment this year as the U.S. government diverts aid to Africa, spokesman Wycliffe McAlister said.
Guyana had been scheduled to receive $5 million of American wheat that was to be sold to pay for development projects.
Guyana has been receiving annual American wheat shipments for decades.
