CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Seeking Caribbean Folk-tales and Poems
Tradewind Books seeks Caribbean folk-tales, poetry and original stories from Caribbean-born authors for an upcoming anthology.

Folk-tales or stories submitted for consideration should not exceed 1,500 words, and poems should be no more than 24 lines. Please add a brief, one-paragraph bio about the author. In the case of folk-tales, please state where they originate.

In lieu of royalties, each chosen author will receive ten complimentary copies of the anthology, with additional copies available at a 50 per cent discount. Also, in the author’s name, 25 copies will be donated to a library of the author’s choice.

The deadline for entries is December 30, 2005.

Tradewind Books was founded in 1994 and published its first books in 1996. Tradewind’s original mandate was to publish quality picture books that help young people understand the diverse and wonderful world we live in through story. Yasmin John-Thorpe is a children’s author and the co-founder of Penticton Writers and Publishers. Born on the island of Trinidad, she has travelled and lived in countries around the world. At present she resides in Penticton, British Columbia, with her husband and two daughters. Having experienced difficulty in finding Caribbean folk-tales for a presentation at her local college, she is committed to preserving the islands’ tales, through the anthology, for future island generations growing up outside the Caribbean.
