the poem this is a dark time my love is provoked by two influences: opression and imprisonment. My interpretation of the piece sees the exposure of Mr. martin’s sentence in prison. the piece can be directed to two love ( Martins wife and country).

The line this is a dark time my love is repeated to show emphasis on the dark time of the country or mr martins life in jail.

the poem is rather touching, especially if read aloud. it’s best competitor interms of readers emotions is sonnet from china xv.
