Election day declared public holiday in Guyana

His Excellency, President Bharrat Jagdeo has authorised the Ministry of Home Affairs to gazette Monday, August 28, 2006 a Public Holiday.
This decision was taken after representation by stakeholders and citizens in the interest of ensuring orderly Elections day activities.
Further, the declaration of August 28 as a Public Holiday will also ensure that the Guyanese electorate will not be impeded in anyway from exercising their franchise.
