Guyanese Shirvanie Persaud is top student at CXC

GUYANESE Shirvanie Persaud, 17, has emerged the Caribbean’s highest achiever at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams and another Guyanese student has emerged the top student in the Sciences.
The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) made the announcement yesterday, naming the Queen’s College student the Most Outstanding Student Overall.

Union wants ‘enhanced severance package’ for Guyanese

GEORGETOWN, Guyana: General Secretary of the Clerical and Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU), Grantley Culbard has indicated that the union will be pressing for an “enhanced severance package” for employees of BWIA, which will grind to a halt on December 31.
The union represents close to 80 Guyanese employees.

Completion of Iwokrama Ranger Training Programme for Six Wai Wais from the Masakenari Village

Today the Iwokrama International Centre announced the completion of classroom training for six persons from the Masakenari Village in Southern Guyana for Park Rangering. Iwokrama was contracted by Conservation International – Guyana to conduct this course as part of their support for the development of the area’s Community-Owned Conservation Area (COCA).
