would like to visit Guyana from December 20,2007 to January 1,2008

I live in Nairobi,Kenya (East Africa) and we do not have a Guyanese embassy or consulate in Kenya. There is none in the East African region either.

I have just read the following information on the Embassy of the Republic of Guyana website in Venezuela: http://www.guyana.org/spanish/consular_venezuela.html#visa

PERSONS WHO DO NOT HAVE A GUYANA MISSION IN THEIR COUNTRY

In the case where a foreign national who is required to be in possession of a visa on arrival, and is travelling from a country not listed or where there is no Guyana Mission thus preventing him/ her from acquiring a visa, he/ she can apply to the Ministry of Home Affairs for a visa to be issued on arrival.
Once the approval is given, the applicant will, upon arrival, be required to submit the approval for the visa to be issued at the Port-of-Entry along with one recent passport-size photograph, to facilitate the issuing of the visa. Only single entry visas are issued at the ports-of-entry unless otherwise approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Please send me by email the information on how I can apply for my Guyana visa on arrival in Georgetown, Guyana

vog: please contact the embassy in the US but ultimately you will have to be in Guyana to get a passport under these circumstances

    Dear Mr. Clement Rohee,

I am kindly asking you to look into Guyana High Commission
in the United Kingdom. Regarding the employees asking the Guyana Citizens for $500.00 pounds in bribe to obtain a new passport. My sister needs her passport as soon as possible to go home for Carifesta and has applied for her passport for the longest while now and she has not received it as yet. PLease give your assistance as soon as possible.

    Sincerely,

    Marcia Waters

I have a UK passport and regularly visit my family ( Insanally’s) in Guyana. My passport is always stamped for the normal 30 days. I am hoping to live there temporarily from November 2008 - April 2009 and with the future plan if all goes well to stay longer. I am early retired and live on my private income and do not require a work permit.I do not intend to live in Guyana permanently but atbthe most a couple of years.
I am storing my furniture and belongings in the UK but also want to bring 1 cat with the correct vets certificate and I have checked all the requirements. If I return to Uk I shall leave the cat with family as I shall be frequently visiting.
My family would like me to stay with one of their friends.
I look forward to the correct information and procedure that I need to follow.
    Thank You
    Josephine Ivory

vog: Josephine we were not sure what your question was

I have a UK passport and when I usually visit my family - Insanally’s it is stamped with normal 30 days. I would like to stay as from November 08 - April 09. Is it 90 days and then I apply for an extension or can I stay 6 months anyway ? I am early retired and have private income and would like to consider living for 3 years at least in Guyana but I am not sure if I want to live there permanently and would like the opportunity to stay there for 6 months initially. I just need to be sure of the correct entry rulings. I am visiting 29/9 -17/10 and can visit the office in Georgetown if required with any documents if needed. Please let me know as soon as possible as I would like to book flights before 29/9.
    Thanks
    Josephine Ivory

vog: we’ll have an answer for you by the end of the week.

I am still awaiting an urgent reply from you as promised by the end of this week but no response received.
I just need the basic entry guidelines regarding length of longer stays acceptable with a UK passport and times allowed for extension applications when required. Do I book for a 6 month stay without problems or it is only 90 days and then apply for an extension ? If I decide after 6 months to re-apply for longer after returning to Uk what is the ruling. I need to be clear when travelling and booking my flight for early November.
As I am travelling to Guyana 29/9 - 17/10 I want to book this 2nd flight in November before I leave and was advised
by High Commission, London to contact you direct.
    Thanks
    Josephine Ivory

vog: Josephine you’ve not contacted the Ministry of Home Affairs! we offer a Q&A service on this site so sometimes it takes days and weeks and even months to get the proper answer. You can book for a six month stay and explain your to the immigration officer when you arrive that you intend to stay for 6 months. He/she should grant you that time on a visa if not you can apply for an extension at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Brickdam when the visa granted to you expires.

  12. Raymond Harlall says:

    September 29th, 2008 at 7:53 pm (#)

Attention Minister Clement Rohee and/or Mrs. Angela Johnson
My name is Raymond Harlall, a Guyanese born, and a 19 year old student. I have recently returned form Canada where i was a Non-Resident student, for the latter part of hight school and first year college. As a result i curently hold a Canadian Secondary School Diploma and a completed first year college transcript. With which, i was granted admission to the University of Guyana.
However, i am writing to you today because i was told by the registration office at UG that i have to pay a “Non-Resident Guyanese fee”(app. $1,000,000/year) as compaired to the regular fee that is $127,000. In addition to the highly inflated tuition fee that they require me to pay, the Bursary department informed me that i am also not qualified for a student loan form the Ministry of Finance. This is due to the fact that they clasified as a “Non-Resident Guyanese”.
Now i am comfuse, i know that i was not a Canadian resident (so i was non-resident over there) however, i was born and raise in Guyana and acording to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ home page on the subject of Guyanese Citizenship

“A person is a Guyanese citizen if he/she is born in Guyana . Such person is eligible for a Republic of Guyana passport and all other privileges given to any Guyanese. ”

All i am asking is to be given an equal privilage, a right to attend school and not just stay home for two yeas so as to qualify for the regular tuition fee because my paents can not afford to pay a “Non-Resident Fee”.
Thus, my and i look foward to hear from either of you.

    Yours truly,
    Raymond Harlall
    Student, and
    Citizen of Guyana.

    Correction to last paragraph
…Thus, my fait whether or not i could attend school or not is based on your decission. I thank you for you time and consideration and i look foward to hear from either of you.

    Yours truly,
    Raymond Harlall
    Student, and
    Citizen of Guyana.

What protection or advice can the Minister of Home Affairs give to a Guyanese citizen who was ran out of the country by thugs?

  15. Daniel Morgan says:

    November 17th, 2008 at 11:37 pm (#)

I am a citizen of the U.S. I desire to become an Guyanese citizen. I understand that upon arrival I will be given a three-month pass to stay. I know that I can get an extension, and my question is this: will the Ministry of Home Affairs accept desire to naturalize as a legitimate reason for extending my pass to stay in the country. Thanik you.

vog: Daniel you have to live in Guyana for a number of years before you can become a naturalised citizen. So if you are coming here to live, yes there are procedures that need to be followed and the Ministry will accomodate you in becoming a resident.
