Perth-based Gairy St Clair has lost his IBF junior lightweight boxing world title on a split decision to South African underdog Malcolm Klassen in a Johannesburg.

St Clair, who was making the first defence of the title he won at the same venue just over three months ago, was awarded the bout by two points on one judge’s card, but finished six points behind on the other two officials’ scorecards.

The Guyana-born boxer suffered only his fourth professional loss.
