According to the results from a line up of 28, eighteen have short listed to contest this year’s Carib soca Monarch competition. That list includes Passa Passa champions X-Factor as well as Marlon Webster, Shelly Garroway, Lasel Duke, Carlos ‘Lucky B’ Williams, Melissa ‘Vanilla’ Roberts, Wilbur ‘Littleman’ Levans, Orlando ‘bones’ Johashan, Slifton ‘passion’ Adolphus, Delroy ‘DMD’ Dash, Mark ‘Super Markey’ Harris, Jamal ‘G Money’ Gittens, Ronella Wosley, Sharmain Gift, X-Fastor, Stephen Dunbar, Lewis Mosley, Winston ‘Pekey Dread,’ Bradshaw and Nicole Osborne.
Speaking to Weekend Entertainer, Competition Coordinator, Nigel Worrell said “Based on the quality of entries received, this years clash will be a major soca showdown …kinda like Trinidad ”. Three days ago the names were selected by a qualified panel employed to shortlist the contenders. Worrell promises even greater rivalry from the 18 who made the grade. Competition begins on February 3 in Linden at which time four would be eliminated. The semifinals would be staged on February 10 while the finals would be staged at the national park on February 18. The winner aside from having bragging rights would take home $600,000 cash plus other prizes.
