I am living in Trinidad, working abroad and my Guyanese passport expires in 2012. I understand that Trinidad and Tobago PP will not be accepted in travel after December 31st 2009. Would I need to change my PP to the machine readable one too. If so, how soon? and can it be done in Trinidad or would I have to go to Guyana. if I have to go to Guyana, how long will the process take from submission of application to receipt of new passport. Please advise.
    Thank you!

  • Cleveland says:

I am living in Canada as a landed immigrant. I loss my guyanese expired passport with my birth papers and landed immigrant papers. I need to return to Guyana before the 9 months waiting period for a new passport. Can I leave Canada without my passport? If yes, How do I do it? please help.

  • Voice of Guyana says:

    @ Barbara
you can leave Canada by ordering a travel document from the Guyana Embassy, but first you would need a Police Statement showing that you filed that these items were lost
you would need technical advice from the embassy as you could be re-applying for a lost passport as opposed to a renewal as you have to show the old passport to receive the new
please speak to the consulate in Canada

In the future can I give my Kids and Husband the citizen ship?

This is a very useful site and information …Thank you

  • Julian Anthony Murray-Carryl says:

at 70: You can get your Guyanese passport but you must first do the following:

    1. Ask your mom has to apply at the Ministry of Foreing Affairs in Guyana(documents could be sent via the nearest embassy)with:
    - A sworn affidavit requesting registration of the birth
    - An original birth certificate OR a copy or the birth certificate that is certified in the country of birth
    - Proof of either parent being Guyanese.

These documents will then be submitted to the Registrar General’s Office for the processing of the registration of birth
    2. After getting the local registration of birth(guyana) you can then apply for a guyanese passport.

Ps: better to go guyana and do it and have someone pick the apporval up our something or the sort..

A relative of mine spent a vacation in Guyana, had some serious problems and had to file a police report at the providence police station. When she went back for the police report, she was given a photocopy of the handwritten crime book extract, this was stamped with the station stamp. But it is just a photocopy of the officer hanwriting directly from the crimebook!
    My questions now are :
    1. Is this normal in Guyana ? To have the police report photocopy from the crimebook instead of typed?
    2. Which department can I contact to attest that indeed this is the practice in Guyana and is valid?

am a nigerian, resident in nigeria, i need a second citizenship passport, how do i go about it?

  • mark jacobs says:

The Constitution and laws of Guyana provide for the acquisition of Guyanese citizenship by four means:
    Birth
    Descent
    Naturalisation and
    Registration
from the information you provided you are not eligible for Guyanese citizenship which is a requirement before you can be legally issued a Guyana passport

A MERY XMAS TO THE CHIEF AND ALL GUYANESE!

    A GUYANESE XMAS

When I look back on my life

Before I had my loving wife

I remember from my childhood file

The good old Xmas Guyanese style

Long before Xmas December 25 would come

My village is astir be you foe or either chum

Folks preparing the home with drapes and blinds

And the Xmas cake by grinding fruits of all kinds

Whoever had the oven firing it up with care

It’s one of those things Guyanese do share

Before December 25th with the sweet aroma

Every mother waiting in line with her quota

With buckets of mixed cakes ready

That’s where would be the activity

    With the women gossiping

    And kids and pets frolicking

A fairlike atmosphere is taken on

    With happy banter by everyone

And setting the cool jinger beer

Was done by an elder with care

A Guyanese Christmas is unique for sure

Can never be understood by a NA culture

    Of hamburger, hotdogs and spaghetti

As me eating my dholl rice and bhajee

Our six peoples each have a tasty dish

Some still enjoy foo foo and salt fish

And from waterside to the sand reef

Our Muslim brothers prefer their beef

    From Corentyne or Buxton

    Hindus mostly eat mutton

With their garlic pork they will go to all ends

So don’t forget our other Portuguese friends

And always need for chow mien for Guyanese

Catered for by that happy band of nice Chinese

To describe it there aren’t any modern phrases

During this time the air is filled as jukeboxes

Blasting melodious Indian songs and chatney

From a people known for their fine hospitality

And a merry Xmas and a happy New year too

you can apply for a passport through the embassy in Washington dc, London, New York or Toronto. there is no place to renew a passport in the middle east

  • Nafeeza says:

Hi, hope you can assist me with my question. I am studying in Toronto, Canada my passport expires in June, 2011. However, I have to reapply for my Study Permit which expires in September, 2010. There is a 9mths gap between Sept 2010- June 2010 and if I am correct your passport needs to be valid for 6mths when doing any requests.

My question is, would it be possible for me to apply for my NEW PASSPORT now (March 2010) and then proceed to extend my Study Permit?? (the expiration of my current passport is it’s 15 years..so i think that calls for it to be a “new” passport and not renewal”).

Secondly, is their a website I can access with the form?

    Thank you.

    Regards,
    Nafeeza

  • Nafeeza says:

  • Andy says:

I am a Guyanese living in the USA. My passport which I had for over 30 years is lost. The last time it was used was on June 30th 1978 when I entered the USA. Can I not apply for a new passport instead of applying for a lost passport. The waiting period for a lost P/P seems extremely long. Also what is the new cost?
    Thanks,
    ALW

vog: you cannot legally receive a new passport without producing the old passport. we suggest you contact your local police department and report your passport as stolen. present a copy of this report to the embassy or consulate and apply for a lost passport. if you intend to travel soon you can request a travel document. you can also contact the embassy or consulate before filing the lost passport request and speak to someone there.
