Reigning Carib Soca Monarch, Melissa Roberts well known as Vanilla was last on stage, and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that she certainly deserves that title. But will she keep it?
Well that is left to be seen soon, as she defends that title against the other semi-finalists!
The others are Wilbur Levans, Orlando Yohannsen, Jackie Hanover, Tomika Thomas, Tille Thorne, Beverley Williams, Pierre Da Silva and Barbara Nedd. And with G$1M up for grabs, anything can happen! (Enid Joaquin)

Stabroek News: The contenders vying to take on Malo this year include Dutchin with “No Place Like Home”; Wilbur ‘Lil Man’ Levans with “Fiah Man”; Melissa ‘Vanilla’ Roberts with “Break Down the Walls” and Orlando ‘Bones Roots’ Johashen with “Warriors”. Carlos ‘Lucky B’ Williams with “Lucky B Flags”; Lois Mosley with “There is a Time for Everything”; Lucretia ‘Shandy’ Oudkerk with “Stop the Carnage” and Clifton ‘Passion’ Adolphus with “Me Alone” also made the semi-final cut. Then there are Trinidadian Edmond ‘Ejo’ Johnson with “Naked”; Barbara ‘Lady B’ Nedd with “Try Soca”; Yannick ‘Nick’ Wade with “Wet Inside de Fete” and Winston ‘Flyer’ Gray with “Man”. Gamut of performing artistes sought for CARIFESTA X – Minister Anthony

Plans are progressing for Guyana’s hosting of the Region’s largest cultural show, the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) X which will be held form August 22 to 31 2008.

Highpoint of the plans were outlined by Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony today during a briefing at the CARIFESTA Secretariat on Middle Street.
